Programs and Services

VIVE provides food, shelter, clothing, healthcare and legal services to refugees as they await their appointment to enter Canada or their U.S. asylum hearing.  The following provides more information about VIVE's programs and services.

Shelter & Food
VIVE programs a warm, basic, but comfortable shelter. With assistance from The Food Bank of Western New York and monetary donations, VIVE provides three meals a day for refugees. We take into account religious and cultural needs in providing appropriate foods.

Health Clinic
The VIVE Health Clinic provides health screenings to every refugee who stays at VIVE. Our part-time nurse treats common illnesses, gives immunizations, and arranges other medical services as needed through local medical facilities. The VIVE nurse works closely with local social welfare agencies to provide medical and mental health care services for refugees with extended stays.

Legal Department
An essential part of VIVE's work is providing legal advice and assistance for refugees seeking protection in Canada or the United States. We provide this with a staff attorney, paralegal assistants, and volunteers. In addition, the attorney members of our Board of Directors provide pro bono legal work and support.
